About
Albany Sinfonia was formed in 1995 by legendary musician Will Upson and then Chairman of the Albany Arts Council Kym Murphy. Will’s extensive career in the music industry as jazz pianist, arranger, conductor and music director provided a strong foundation to build a thriving community orchestra.
Sinfonia performs around three concerts each year and presents a wide variety of music to Albany and the surrounding Great Southern region audiences. From well-known movie themes, to musical medleys and popular classical symphonies, our concerts entertain and inspire audiences of music lovers.
Highlight performances have included a Night at the Opera, a newly commissioned score to Buster Keaton’s silent movie ‘Sherlock Junior’, a collaboration with Philharmonic South West to perform Mahler Symphony No.2 and ‘Town Hall Fanfare’ to celebrate the refurbYour Title Goes Hereishment of the Albany Town Hall.
The orchestra has been fortunate to benefit from the expert direction from a variety of conductors, including Will Upson, Emma Luxton, Neville Talbot and Kathryn MacNeil.
