Fairy Queen Triumph
Sinfonia members Helen Grandage (viola), Evie Roxburgh (viola) and Julie Parish (cello) joined musicians from the University of Western Australia’s Conservatorium of Music in an exciting collaboration with the Albany Entertainment Centre and arts organisation Breaksea in a new, fully staged production of Henry Purcell’s ‘Fairy Queen’. The performance was a magical, underwater spectacle featuring song, dance, projection and shadow puppetry.
Performed to near-capacity audiences across two performances, this stunning aquatic-themed reinvention of William Shakespeare’s play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ featured opera singers Sara Macliver and Pia Harris along with a cast of local actors and choirs. The show also featured shadow puppetry designed by Albany artist Sue Codee, creative, aquatic-themed costumes and contemporary dance.
The orchestra was led by Australian Brandenburg Orchestra Concertmaster Shaun Lee-Chen under the baton of Professor Alan Lourens.
